Image Conservation and Framing
Every effort is made to ensure the longevity and enjoyment of your chosen print.
Canvas
- printing will be on high grade semi gloss canvas media.
- Epson pigment inks are used to enhance UV fade resistance.
- three coats of protective lacquer will be applied to prevent scratch as well as moisture and UV degradation
- all canvas prints will be stretched on a kiln dried Obeche frame
- the stretched canvas is then back-sealed using acid free tape.
- Even after this care canvasses must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
- If the canvas print is not framed by us it will be shipped unstretched and protected from potential damage during the post or courier transport.
Framed fine art paper prints
- The highest quality paper and inks are used
- great care is taken to ensure acid free framing – mount boards and tap are acid free, a museum board ensures that the print does not come in contact with the back mat board.
- 2mm non reflective glass is used
- The frame is sealed to exclude moisture, dust and insects.
To further add to the African experience, indigenous woods are used in the making of our frames.
The print is enhanced by simple elegant framing. To achieve this we use a dark “coffee bean” coloured frame (African Mahogany, Chamfuta, Rhodesian Teak or Kiaat). Where appropriate or requested an African Rosewood inlay may be incorporated in the frame.
A 10cm mount board surround is used (other than in smaller frames) in order to allow the image its full impact.
A small margin (1cm) of white space is usually left between the print and the edge of the framing mount board. It is in this margin that the photographer’s signature appears together with the number of the print appears e.g. Glowing Images 3. In the case of a limited image this would be say 3/25.
Unframed fine art paper prints
We request that you follow the framing guidelines given above.
We have made every attempt to give a high quality frame together with measures appropriate to preserve your print. Although cheaper framing alternatives may be available, they may well not ensure the longevity and enjoyment of your investment.
